I love the clean, smooth beam profiles and gradual transitions inherent with most TIR lenses. Reflectors are great, and I actually prefer them for some uses, but in general, the TIR is my preference. So when my Convoy order arrived today, containing a few TIR lenses of various sizes, I gave retrofitting a go in my M200 and M150 and I’m pleased with the results.

FYI, the emitters were swapped a while ago, going from 519a to FFL351a.

The 19.5mm TIR for the Convoy H4 headlamp fit the M200 well but it’s a tad bit taller than the reflector and therefore prevents the glass from being put back in and yes, I removed the spacer. I just put the o-ring around the underside of the lip of the TIR and added a o-ring to the inside of the bezel (between the inside lip of the bezel and TIR) for good measure. I’m ok going without the glass as many TIR applications are without glass anyway. Waterproofing seems legit with the added o-ring.

The M150 accepted the 17mm TIR quite well but I did have to sand around the lip a small amount so it would fit properly in the tube and against the MCPCB (I removed the spacer here as well). I also sanded off the little risers on the emitter side of the TIR. The original o-ring was placed in the original spot and the glass and bezel tightened down quite nicely so the glass and o-ring mated. No rattling and remains waterproof.

The beams are now perfect for me (they were great before with the reflector) with zero rings or artifacts and smooth transitions. I can also now swap different degrees of TIR’s to tweak the beam profiles as well. Great little mod for those who really like TIR beams and love these two lights as much as I do. Slightly fiddly, with sanding the TIR’s and such, but not bad at all.
