I'm loving my new D3AA and want to carry it more, but I ordered it before I came across people's comments about the metal switch cover being a little mushy. I have had a few incidents of accidental pocket activation and find that I can't really carry the light in this configuration without locking it out, which is inconvenient.

So I have a couple of questions for you all:

  1. Has anyone successfully removed the glued-on metal button, and how much of a challenge is it? I have a heat gun and some snap-ring pliers, but not Hank's switch ring removal tool.
  2. Does the raised switch ring do enough to make the light pocketable with the metal button, or should I replace it with a rubber boot? The metal button is sexy of course, but I want to carry this light and I know I won't do that if it's always turning on in my pocket.

Current config: metal switch cover, flat retaining ring (NTG35 2700K because I know you're wondering 😉)

I don’t think you can add a raised ring to the metal button (someone correct me if I’m wrong) but the raised ring and a rubber button is very pocketable without locking the light out.

I have the flat ring and a rubber button in my D1 and in other hanks I own, I have the raised ring and a rubber button. Not very fond of the flat ring though. Haven’t gotten the metal button in any configuration because of this reason.
