Want to wrap it with 550 cord, but with it having smooth curves, I don’t see how any wrapping would stay. Would you carry skeletonized or try to wrap it? Or any other ideas are welcome.

wrapping will absolutely work! theres a ton of different methods on YT.
You could also buy a pair of micarta blanks (on ebay for example), and try shaping your own scales! Not super hard at all, just need a dremel or sander
