I’ve had this old G2 for many years. It’s always by my side at night along with my home defense weapon. The bulb finally blew out. Just found out (thank you Reddit) that there are replacement P60 lights you can buy. I see Surefire makes a direct replacement that’s like 20 bucks. I’ve also been looking at the Malkoff units. It looks like I would need a M61L or LL with my plastic body? Is this a huge upgrade over the incandescent bulb? Will any CR123A battery work or is there a particular type or brand of battery I should be looking at?

I’d go with the Malkoff drop in. Preferably the M61L 3000k. Huge upgrade over the incandescent bulb. They are potted to withstand hard drops, recoil, and other shock related things. Also lifetime warranty
Might make sense to purchase protected Keeppower 16650 rechargeable batteries and a charger. One 16650 li-ion is basically the same size as two CR123s
Keeppower also makes 1000mah USB rechargeable 3V 16340s that you can use in place of the CR123s
Only CR123s I have ever bought were Energizer, Surefire, Streamlight , and Duracell
