This is a Shibriya dagger gifted to me by my uncle. It is a traditional dagger used in northern Arabian Bedouin society.
This particular dagger was made in Amman, Jordan by the family محيسن “mohaissen” which are a well known family that make these daggers, and are considered the best in this craft. They are very popular among bedouins in northern Saudi Arabia and southern Jordan. This particular dagger has the date on it, at 1993, and the name of the maker.
These are an essential utility dagger/knife used by bedouins for:
– cutting rope, tent cords
– skinning and cutting meat
– slaughtering camels, as camels are slaughtered in a specific way called “nahr” where a stab is created at the base of the neck. This makes this shape perfect for that function.
This dagger used to have precious stone embedded in it but they fell out. Also the belt is new, I attached it to it.
