Admittedly, I don’t know much about flashlights. But I have been learning from this sub.
For years I daily carried a Maratac AAA, which was fine, but I wanted something rechargeable. I found this SC21 in Feb 2024 and it’s been a good pocket flashlight. I really like the magnetic end, and the two-way pocket clip is also useful. If I’m traveling, the light fits nicely in my AER CPP2 without taking up too much room.
This SC21 is a 5000k light with 5 modes: Moonlight- 1 lm / Low – 10 lm / Medium – 100 lm / High – 400 lm / Turbo – 1000 lm (see below for me just now finding out about the turbo!)
My biggest complaint is that the side button feels kind of cheap and it regularly turns on in my pocket (I’ll feel something warm in my pocket and realize the light is on). Sometimes it’s on long enough to drain the battery way down, which isn’t good.
However, I will say, after two years of owning this light I only found out last week (from this sub) that there is a turbo mode if I double click! Crazy that I never knew this. It’s so much brighter on turbo.
Anyway, I want something a bit bigger for when I hunt, hike, work outside, etc. so last week I ordered a SC33. I was between that and a Wurkkos TS22 (both seem to be popular here). Not totally sure if I made the right call, but I’ll make a post when the SC33 arrives. Any recommendations for other lights?
Also, I would love to build a Convoy, but the lack of USB-C charging really feels like a deal-breaker for me. I definitely see the utility benefit of building your own, and it seems to be a lot more budget-friendly, but I’m really not sure I’ll be diligent enough to take the battery out and charge it. And I don’t want to carry it on a trip and then realize it needs to be charged. I do have a Nitecore D2 charger for my WML, but it’s rare that I need to charge that battery. Maybe y’all can change my mind on this and convince me to build a Convoy?
Thanks for reading. Would love to hear some recommendations and feedback.
