Knife build bug caught me again. Had a Hinderer XM-18 go missing on a construction site and that's been fueling the build bug fire. I've been doing the EDC thing with a stock CRK Inkosi Insigno for the last few months…but it is perfection and I don't have the heart to change anything with it. My last build was a BBB 15v Military 2 and I have a well used and loved 15v Shaman. Figured I would go a similar route…but this time in CruWear. So pulled the trigger on a Manix XL build.
The knife, RSD scales, and Flytanium Tritium cage all arrived in the post this morning. Yet to arrive is I have a timascus lanyard plug (no idea who the maker is, it is a a preowned buy from eBay), milled titanium pocket clip (bladeswelove), and a backspacer (Etsy).
Tear down and assembly with the new scales and ball cage went smooth. I kinda pulled the trigger before doing my homework when it came to compatibility. I saw some mention around the web about the CruCarta Spyderco knives having compatibility issues with aftermarket parts, and the ball-cage looked like it may cause some issues. Thankfully, I don't seem to be experiencing any binding issues. I didn't try to install the Flytanium cage in the stock scales and frame, but it seems to function perfectly in the RSD scales.
I think the build is turning out well. Aside from the few remaining parts, I may hit the scales with a torch and add some color to the scales. The pocket clip, when it arrives, will definitely the flame taken to it. I doubt the Ti RSD scale and the Ti of the pocket clip will match…so the coloring will help it contrast a bit more attractively, think.
