I’d like to try a Demko not sure if I should spend more for a better steel or if d2 will be good enough.. gonna be an edc mostly used for opening boxes and stripping romex sheathing here and there

Yea you’re gunna love it. I have a 3v. But D2 is real good. Shark lock is awesome. It’s light and stout.
D2 should be fine for daily use, you should learn how to sharpen it and you’ll be able to keep it sharp EZ.
Get the fancier steel if you’re going to be using it for hours at a time without sharpening. Or if you just want to be able to brag to people.
Also, fancier steel probably has slightly better resell value.
Demko is a great brand. You’ll love their knives. This is a great entry into the shark lock. D2 is also perfectly fine for daily use.
I have that exact one. I prefer larger Demko.
