Just got into knife collecting! I originally was interested in Spyderco, but my buddy said they were junk…

How am I doing so far?

Your buddy is an idiot. Spyderco are excellent knives.

That said, the 940 is a classic and the Bugout is a great knife. Both of those knives are worth having.

Those were my first knives too. You are doing just fine! Spydercos aren’t junk but they are function over form for sure.

Benchmades are fine. The company gets hate for its pricing, but both BM and Spyderco make good knives.

Both brands make great knives that are a little overpriced. You can’t go wrong with either but there are cheaper alternatives that are just as well made. Check out the Hogue RSK.

Where’d you buy these? Maybe it’s just the pictures but the logos and scales look off

Don’t listen to your friend anymore lmao.

But the Benchmades you chose are very nice.

The Spyderco look is a bit of an acquired taste.

I’ve had a Para 3 (~3” blade) scare someone and they called it “a big knife” while they physically recoiled. lol oops. I think the Bugout is much less likely to scare someone since it already looks like every other knife they’ve ever seen.

That said, after I finally got my first Spyderco they are undeniably very solid, functional knives. I like my Para 3 way more than my Benchmades now (except my Benchmade Anonimus… I love that thing).

I prefer Spyderco, the only Benchmades I don’t regret buying are my 940s
