In 2023, I posted here for help picking out a knife as a Christmas gift for my boyfriend. This sub was so helpful, and I ended up getting him the Spyderco Paramilitary 2 in CruWear w/ brown canvas Micarta scales (from Lynch with deep-carry clip).
He travels a lot for work and always puts his knife in his checked bag. He’s flown almost a dozen times this year with zero issues. But today… he opened his suitcase, found a TSA notice, and the knife was gone.
He loved that knife, and he’s pretty frustrated that after so many flights, this one time it gets confiscated.
What should I get him as a replacement for Christmas? Something in the same tier as the PM2 he lost would be ideal. Any favorites you’d recommend?

Get him the same one if you can.
Other than that I would suggest another Spyderco with the same materials (micarta scales and cruwear blade). Spyderco has a whole bunch of different models to choose from.
Maybe get him the newer military 2 with the same compression lock. They have it in the same config as the PM2 he lost if you look around at some dealer sites
I hate the TSA. It’s why I only travel with cheaper knives now. Only took one stolen ZT to learn that lesson.
Wait it was taken from his checked bags? Flying to where? I’ve flown hundreds of times and all TSA has taken from my checked bags was a torch lighter (my bad). Never any of my knives and they’re considerably scarier than a PM2. Did the note say anything?
