Need help with my homemade knife

So basically I made a knife from scratch, starting from truck brake pad, then heated and hammered it into a knife ( picture 1 when close to finished ).

Last weekend I brought it with me at a party with friends and forgot it there, they wanted to clean it for me and put it in the dishwasher.

After this it came out really trashed and I was wondering if there is anything I can do to restore it.

I could grind it back clean but I wanted to keep the brute aspect of it if possible.

I don’t know if I’m in the right sub for this and I would really appreciate if anyone could give me some pointers.
