Got this knife on clearance for only $9, was 45$! Fell off my lap getting out of the car onto the concrete and put a ding in the corner. Well sanding it out cause any rust in the future? It says it’s stainless steel so I feel like this is a silly question but I don’t know if that’s only the blade. I have some very fine sand paper up 2000 grit. Gonna give it to my nephew for his 8th birthday engraved “Fishing Buddies”

Sanding won’t make any stainless steel able to rust. Only if sanding remove a protectiv layer of something (varnish, patina etc…) on a steel that can already rust you’ll make it able to rust.
I don’t see why your knife handle would be in a non stainless, it wouldn’t make any sens.
You should be perfectly fine sanding the little ding.
