


I’m hoping anyone can tell me anything about this. I think it’s an old big ass butcher knife. But what kind of butchering would have been done with it? For scale, it’s about 30” long overall, blade a little less than half that length. The handle is wrapped in rope of some sort.

These are called carcass splitters. They have since been replaced with band saws. But old butches would hang an animal carcass up my it’s legs and split it down the middle with one of these. Svord makes a modern equivalent
Never sell it. In the future, when all of humanity goes blind, your great great grandson can drag it on the ground and use it to fight oppressive dictators.
