I bought this SZM 004 from Williams Blade Design and have never dealt with anything like this before.
I bought it as it was advertised as being EDC friendly even though it has a self defense look to it, however any time I use it on anything it rusts/ patinas! After figuring this out I have even gone through the trouble of cleaning it after every use only to find it like this after letting it dry for the time it took me to eat the food I had prepared with it. I’ve reached out once before over smaller spot rusting, however im at a point where I think im totally done with not only the knife, but the company as they said its normal. Am I crazy for expecting a little better out of a $475 dollar Magnacut knife?!

    Doesn’t look like any magnacut I’ve had…

  2. Can you still return it and get something better?

That is plain stupid. Coat it with problematic BS. Sad.

Either somebody is lying and that’s not actually magnacut or whatever they did to the blade for that finish is creating a highly reactive surface.

I would press them more, it’s not normal for magnacut.

Magna can develop slight surface rust, but that’s not easy to achieve. You gotta learn what their BS “apocalyptic” coating is, maybe get rid of it.

This knife was a grail for me, but no more…

Magnacut ideally should be highly corrosion resistant. This is why I think any blade using it with coating is highly dubious.

Among the supersteel out there, Magnacut needs precise heat treatment to achieve its desirable traits. I think it has lower tolerances among any other steel because it banks on the heat treatment so much, the chrome content is lesser than the usual stainless steel.
