How I wish I had a beamshot of this…
As a child in the early 80s, we had flashlights that were kind of like this one, except the lens was recessed. I couldn’t find a pic of exactly what I remember but it was rectangular with a rocker switch. Rectangular is important here. All yellow, I think. We were camping in a campground with outhouses. Had to take a leak after dark. Campfire in progress. Went to the outhouse with the ol’ reliable AA (probably?) incandescent flashlight illuminating the way (why I wouldn’t have found a private place outdoors is beyond recall now. Perhaps too many people. Parents likely wouldn’t have been for it). Upon arrival, I needed both hands to manage the operation (hold the sweatpants down with one hand, aim the garden hose with the other). The nice thing about the rectangular shape was it was easier to bite. So I did. Everything was going according to plan. As a youngster, however, my mouth wasn’t big enough and jaw not strong enough. Flashlight popped out from between my teeth and into the latrine. It landed beam shining up from the muck. There would be no retrieval effort. Every time someone went in, you’d hear the laughter.
I have lights now I’d probably at least try to fish out via the magnetic cap!
