I’ve acquired this X21R.2 (yet another dumpster dive), and just ordered a mag charger for it (luckily the last one in stock in my country).
Not knowing if it’s even working I’ve done my due diligence of research and found some pros and cons.
Condition seems great, normal wear and tear, no burned electronics, no rust or integrity failure, but upon taking the head off I see the age of the headgasket, needs a replacement and silicon lube. Other gasket seems fine.
I’ve realized long before I disliked propiatary batteries but here we are, I want to revive it to it’s full glory (still have an old first gen mag 4D so this seems like one hell of a free ish upgrade, though there is some investmemt already buying parts).
They use a + and – disk to talk with the internals, and x3 32700 5000MAh 3.2v combined 9.6v sandwiched between.
The price of these batterypacks are not crazy ( 120 is dollars in my country, but seen up to 299 with housing abroad ) considering their new model has 5000 cycles compared to the 2-3000 from before.
Yet I like to tinker and modify.
Has anyone opened these packs and just changed the battery cells and sandwiched it back together?
To me this seems higly plausible as they are made that way.
I will however wait and see if a charge will hold when mag charger arrives or if there is something else wrong with it.
Also, headgasket is rotting away and holds on for dare life, are there known measurements or should I just do a rough estimate and order something that seems compatible?
Really looking forward to see this monster in action.
Charger was about 50 usd with shipping, so thats the current investment into this.

50 for the charger already is way more than I’d personally invest in this light.
