Balistc
Hi everyone!
I work for a local government, leading a team of 30 who take care of the City’s assets (facility, asset and property management teams), and most recently I’ve also taken on an enormous waste recovery facility where we recover recyclables and we landfill trash from the City and various other government and commercial operators. 60% of my week is at my desk or in meetings, and the other 40% of the week is out on the road visiting the various facilities, including the garbage dump.
I’ve been honing this EDC for a couple of years, trying to balance reasonable weight (I’m a reasonably big guy so I don’t need it to be featherweight, but also I don’t want it to weigh more than a few kg!), practicality, and also hard-wearing / longevity as I tend to throw my bag around a fair bit, such as in and out of the car, and it also gets banged around at the various places I’m working from.
I went with the Tom Bihn Pilot as its the perfect size for me (13L), its made by people being paid a living wage and it has a long warranty, and the ballistic nylon outer / dyneema (halcyon) lining should last me a very, very long time.. plus its easy to clean! Also the modular nature of the TB bags suited my storage preferences of using different pouches and modules within the bag.
Bag: Tom Bihn Pilot with an OP//Tech SOS strap.
**Main rear pocket:**
Apple Airtag
Microsoft Surface Pro in a cheap neoprene sleeve (it does the trick!)
Fjallraven High Country cross body bag 3L capacity, which I keep in the main bag as a storage for smaller items and pouches, but also as a breakout type of bag if I need to carry a few items with me somewhere (like if I have to attend a meeting off-site that I don’t need my main bag, I’ll leave it at the office and just take this one with a few items in it).
**Inside the Fjallraven High Country is a:**
Tom Bihn 3D Organiser Cube filled with basic hygiene and daily necessities (sometimes I work long hours so its nice to be able to freshen up).
Tom Bihn small ghost whale pouch with my work badge, keys and cards (on a Hiplok carabiner keychain).
Ray Bans
Mints
**Front left pocket:**
Moleskine notebook
Apple Airpod Pro in a Skinarma case with carabiner clip
**Thule Subterra PowerShuttle case with:**
Spudz microfibre lens / screen cleaning cloth
Cheap bitdriver from Amazon (it works well for $4)
Titanium toothpick
H&H Folding lockpick set (yes I do use it!)
Remax 10,000mah 22.5W power bank
Nano USB rechargeable LED flashlight
Leatherman Sidekick
Victorinox Huntsman SAK (I got this one from the recycling shop at the dump for $1!!)
**Front middle pocket:**
Kinto 500ml drink bottle
**Front right pocket:**
Frank Green 12oz coffee cup
My main set of keys on a Tom Bihn key lanyard (attached to the bag O-ring), using a Nite Ize S-Biner.
Kaweco Classic Sport ballpoint pen
Ridge wallet
As you can see it all fits perfectly, and nothing bulges or makes the bag unwieldy. The bag also stands up on its own!
Any questions, please ask! Always happy to chat EDC
