Hi guys, new here, I don’t know if I’m posting this on the right sub, but if you could help me I’d be super grateful.

My partner has a knife with an N690 steel blade and something’s happened to it, we’re not sure when/how, but the blade now looks dull and overall destroyed, see photo. He’s furious for obvious reasons, I’m basically prohibited to even touch his knives, so it wasn’t me, he always looks after them and basically we have no idea what in the freaking hell can do such damage to a blade like this. We’ll ask the maker if he can fix it, and I have a theory.. not sure if it’s nonsense or a legit possibility.

We baked pizza today, we didn’t have any baking paper, so we used an aluminium foil, and we used this knife for cutting, with the foil underneath the pizza.. is it possible that the 200°C foil meeting with the blade.. heat treated it somehow? Or someone in our household cut some iron nails with it and put it back to its place? The latter would seem pretty much surreal to me but this is high quality steel…

Any help and explanation is welcome, if you have any idea what could do such damage, I’m absolutely ignorant when it comes to blades, please don’t be harsh.
