Hi guys,

Asking a question so I can post my first beam shots 😉

Just wondering if there’s any way to reduce the spill on my Convoy S8+. It lights up a fair bit of the surroundings on full power which does make it slightly more useful and not just a toy but, I’d still like to see less of it.

Thanks

p.s my bank balance did not appreciate me joining this sub.

  1. Which emitter is that? I think the W1 is the best one for tighter hotspot with less spill, if you want even less spill you’ll have to look into LEPs instead.

I personally love the spill of my l21b but a lot of people hate it, my first suggestion is learning to love it, my second suggestion is to look into an acebeam L18

The spill is defined by the opening of the reflector. To reduce it, simply slide an empty roll of toilet paper over the head. It won’t affect the throw, but reduces the spill.

In the past on older lights I made light snoots/hoods for the bezels to change exactly this look, a poor mans lep if you may.

You’ll need something just large enough to fit around end of bezel and about 2-6 inches long. Can use PVC pipe, paper towel cardboard tube, TP or whatever to choke light output. You can dial it down into a pencil beam if you like with some experimenting but doesn’t increase throw or anything, just removes spill.

I’ve a few rubber slip on bezel lens diffusers from the past that you can take glass out of and alternatively use as a hood on bezels of thrower lights to choke their spill down some. It’s too bad these aren’t common with newer lights these days cause you could kind of have your cake and eat it too. I mean a thrower and flooder in one light that wasn’t huge or filled differing optics.
