The knife is pretty much guaranteed to patina. I’d suggest just giving in to that. Rust may or may not be an issue. If you keep the knife in a sweaty pocket all day then don’t be surprised if you get a few rust pins. You’re going to need to keep the blade oiled if you want to prevent that. In a dry environment you probably won’t need to worry about oil to prevent rust.
