Although I have never bought a strider, I think that’s ridiculous considering the cost. As far as the hogue, I would see if the pivot needs to be tightened since it’s on washers before writing it off completely. I’m sure you know as well that it takes much less manufacturing effort to produce a centered bearing knife compared to one on washers.
