You have to twist and lift at the same time, to clear the plier between the frame and back spacer. It helps if you can loose the screws around the head. Mine was missing loctite from factory, that could explaine the sudden looseness what allowed this to flex beyond the limiter.

Seems like a safer (no twisting) way is to remove the screw on the plier side and reassemble
